International arrivals to Malaysia in the first six months of the year hit 13,354,575 tourists, marking a 4.9% increase compared to the same period in the previous year, pointing to a potentially robust year of tourism for Malaysia.

 

Tourism Malaysia’s strategic collaboration with Expedia Group is expected to boost arrivals from Australia, Japan and the US by some 220,500 inbound travelers from these source markets within the next six months.

 

The Retro Havoc World Tour kicked off on 19 August with local race car driver, Tengku Hedri Engku Hassan, taking the wheel of the iconic Toyota AE86 bearing the Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign logo to promote Malaysia across 25 countries including China, Russia, Germany and France.

More Malaysians are traveling and exploring their own backyard. The number of domestic tourists showed a double digit growth of 10.9% with a total of 78.2 million domestic tourists in 2018. Tourist expenditure also shot up by 11.7% in 2018, while Pahang was identified as the most-visited state by domestic tourists.

 

In line with the trend for digital revolution, Tourism Malaysia is working with 25 social media influencers in ASEAN region to promote Visit Malaysia 2020 and reach between 2 million and 4 million audience as the outcome of MAIKOL.

 

“Under the new National Tourism Policy, Malaysia will designate strategic Special Tourism Investment Zones throughout the country. Specific incentives are now being formulated to attract both hard infrastructure investment as well as new technology-based investment in the tourism sector.
